How to deal with overwhelm

Writer: Carina PopeCarina Pope

Start small.

When you are surrounded by clutter on a daily basis it's likely you'll be feeling overwhelmed, this feeling of overwhelm can stop you moving forward as it all just seems too much.

You don't know how or where to start decluttering and it will feel like all of your precious time will be totally consumed by the process, so you close the door and the problem remains.....sound familiar?

Try this....

I have helped many people to take that all important first step and to keep going by using the simple 15 minute method.....and IT WORKS! It's not too overwhelming with great results.

Choose the area you would like to declutter but keep it small for now. Set a timer for 15 minutes and get started, pick up each item in your chosen space and ask yourself if you love it, if it's useful, do you need it? Make your decision and either let it go or keep it. Remember if you choose to keep it you should be able to find it a home in the long run.

Do this with each item in your chosen space until your 15 minutes is up.

A great place to start decluttering is in the bathroom, you are unlikely to have any sentimantal atttatchment to items found in the bathroom and they are usually relatively small spaces.

If possible, the items you have chosen to let go of should be removed the same day to really give you a sense of acheivement and space.

By using this method regularly you will soon start to see progress being made, your home will have pockets of space which will become larger areas of space over time & you will feel lighter.
